In a surprising turn of events, the organizer of the African Icon Awards has announced the relocation of its 9th Edition from Accra, Ghana, to Abuja, Nigeria. The annual event, previously slated for the 26th of July, will now take place at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

Ambassador Abraham Lawal, the visionary behind this prestigious gathering, in a chat with an Abuja based blogger Oriri Peter, explained that the decision to move the event to Nigeria was driven by a desire to honor the mother nation. In a candid chat, he emphasized the importance of bringing this year’s edition to Nigeria.

Over the years, the African Icon Awards has celebrated outstanding leaders, music icons, philanthropists, humanitarians, and celebrities from across the African continent.

Previous honorees include luminaries such as Amb. Azonobi Kingsley Mike, MD/CEO of Domak Group; Prof. Steve Azaiki OON; and Hon. Cecilia Dapaah, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources in Ghana. Also recognized were Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor, Chairman of Lifestyle Hub Assets in Ghana; the son of a former Ghanaian president, Hon. Anastancia Ndhlovu; and Former Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Director Manna Ventures & President Manna, President Republic of Zimbabwe.
