The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Candidate for Benue South Senatorial District, Dr. David Olofu, has expressed deep sorrow over the deadly attack on the Otukpo-Nobi community in Okete District of Otukpo Local Government Area, calling on both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to take immediate steps to protect vulnerable communities across the district.
Reacting to the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, Dr. Olofu described the recurring violence in Benue South as unacceptable and urged the relevant authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending those responsible for the attack and ensuring they are brought to justice, stressing that decisive action is needed to end the cycle of violence that has continued to plague communities in the district.
Describing the killings as deliberate acts of aggression, Dr. Olofu maintained that the protection of lives and property must remain the primary responsibility of government at all levels.
“Every necessary effort must be mobilized to secure our communities and preserve the sanctity of human life,” he said.
The ADC senatorial candidate further commiserated with the families of the victims and the people of Otukpo over the tragic incident. As of the time of his statement, no fewer than nine persons had been confirmed dead following the attack.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and asked God to grant comfort, healing, and strength to the bereaved families and the entire Okete District as they mourn their loved ones.
Dr. Olofu reaffirmed his solidarity with the people of Benue South, assuring them that the safety and security of the district must remain a top priority and urging governments at all levels to act swiftly to stem the tide of violent attacks on innocent communities.
