Mehtic Technology, developers of the innovative BankPlus Core Banking Infrastructure, has emerged winner of the 2026 RegTech Africa Startup World Cup Abuja Regional Challenge, earning a place at the Global Startup World Cup Finals scheduled to hold in Silicon Valley, United States.
The competition was held during the just-concluded RegTech Africa Conference and Expo (RACE 2026) at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The three-day conference, which ran from May 20 to May 22, 2026, brought together regulators, investors, financial institutions, policymakers, startup founders, and technology innovators from across Africa to discuss financial innovation, regulatory technology, and digital transformation.
A major highlight of the event was the Startup World Cup Pitch Day, where startups presented solutions designed to address financial and regulatory challenges facing Africa.

The Abuja Regional Challenge was organized through a partnership between RegTech Africa and the Startup World Cup, one of the world’s largest startup pitch competitions. With the victory, Mehtic Technology will represent the region at the global finals in Silicon Valley, where startups from different parts of the world will compete for a $1 million investment prize and strategic global partnerships.
Out of hundreds of applications received across Africa, only 15 startups were selected to pitch before a panel of judges, investors, and ecosystem leaders.
The finalists represented sectors including fintech, regulatory technology (regtech), artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and GovTech, with evaluation based on innovation, scalability, revenue potential, business sustainability, presentation quality, and societal impact.

Mehtic Technology stood out with its BankPlus Core Banking Infrastructure, a next-generation digital banking platform built to provide secure, scalable, and efficient banking solutions for financial institutions.
The innovation attracted attention from judges and participants for its ability to simplify banking operations, improve efficiency, strengthen digital financial services, and support financial inclusion across emerging markets.
Speaking on the achievement, the Chief Executive Officer of Mehtic Technology, Ahmed Sani, described the victory as a major milestone for the company and Africa’s growing technology ecosystem.
He said the recognition reflects the increasing global relevance of African-built fintech solutions and highlights the continent’s capacity to develop world-class digital infrastructure capable of transforming banking and financial services.
Sani added that despite challenges often faced by deep-tech startups, including funding limitations, regulatory hurdles, and market-entry barriers, the company remained committed to building secure, scalable, and inclusive financial infrastructure solutions.
He noted that Mehtic Technology’s long-term vision is to become a leading financial technology infrastructure provider in Africa and beyond.
Following the victory, the company said it would focus on expanding the BankPlus ecosystem, strengthening partnerships with financial institutions, and preparing for the Startup World Cup Global Finals.
The RegTech Africa Conference and Expo (RACE) remains one of Africa’s leading platforms promoting innovation in regulatory technology, financial services, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.
