The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Edo State on Special Duties, Mr. Uriesi Aarebamen Alex, has congratulated Mr. George Uriesi on his appointment as the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, hailing it as a ground breaking development for the airline and a proud moment for Edo State.
The announcement was made during Ibom Air’s historic first public Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, at the prestigious Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The meeting, requested by the Shareholder, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, showcased Ibom Air’s strong corporate governance, financial growth, and operational success over the past year.
During the AGM, Governor Umo Eno also announced the elevation of the airline’s pioneer CEO, Captain Mfon Udom, to the role of Non-Executive Chairman of the Board. Mr. George Uriesi, the airline’s Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, was appointed Acting MD/CEO.
In a congratulatory statement, Mr. Alex Uriesi described George Uriesi’s appointment as “a very big stride of progress” for Ibom Air and expressed optimism that the airline is now positioned for even greater achievements.
“Mr. George Uriesi brings to this role a wealth of experience from international aviation to national leadership roles,” he said. “He previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), where he drove impressive development. He also held key roles in the South African airport system, especially in preparing infrastructure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a testament to his far-reaching expertise.”
Mr. Uriesi was part of the founding team behind Ibom Air and has worked closely with Captain Udom since the airline’s inception, playing a crucial role in its growth and positioning in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Mr. Aarebamen emphasized that the people and government of Edo State are proud of Mr. Uriesi, whom he described as a “pureblood of Edo son” who has consistently delivered excellence.
“He has left great footprints in West African aviation. His leadership will no doubt take Ibom Air to international routes, thanks to his vision and competence. Edo State is proud of him — he embodies the resilience and brilliance of the Esan people.”
