In a landmark event for the Orokam United Forum (OUF), Comrade Anthony Abah Ekere was officially sworn in as the 5th National President of the organization. Addressing members at the inaugural ceremony, Comrade Ekere pledged to lead with transparency, accountability, and a focus on the Forum’s core mission of improving the lives of Orokam people.
The new administration inherits a strong legacy, including the registration of the Forum with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the leadership of the immediate past President, Chief Daniel Ojile. Comrade Ekere acknowledged this achievement and expressed gratitude to the outgoing executive for their service.
In his inaugural address, Comrade Ekere announced a transformative initiative, “Educate an Orokam Child Today and Save a Future Generation.” The program is designed to address educational challenges faced by indigent students of Orokam descent.
The initiative will roll out in two stages:
- School Fee Sponsorship: The administration plans to pay school fees for at least 100 indigent students currently schooling in Orokam. Estimated costs range from ₦6,500 to ₦9,500 per student, with the first phase requiring a projected ₦3,000,000.
- Provision of School Materials: The second phase will focus on providing uniforms, footwear, school bags, and writing materials.
To ensure inclusivity and fairness, a committee will be set up to guide the selection process, and the criteria will be published within the week.
Comrade Ekere emphasized the importance of financial transparency. The Forum’s Fidelity Bank account, which holds a current balance of ₦124,206.12 after recent election-related expenses, will be the sole channel for fundraising and project expenses. Members are encouraged to direct all contributions to the official account:
- Account Name: Orokam United Forum (OUF) National
- Account Number: 5700025233
- Bank: Fidelity Bank
The President also disclosed that the newly elected National Executive contributed ₦70,000 for refreshments during the inauguration, ensuring no funds were drawn from the Forum’s account for this purpose.
Comrade Ekere extended an olive branch to aggrieved members, inviting them to present their grievances for resolution. He also announced the creation of a National Executive Committee (NEC) comprising branch and unit chairpersons, with plans to expand it further to include secretaries and national officials for more inclusive governance.
In a passionate appeal, Comrade Ekere urged all members to rally behind the new administration, contribute to the success of the educational initiative, and support efforts to redefine the Forum’s core vision.
“The past is gone; lessons have been learned. Let us focus on today and the future. Together, we will make a difference,” he concluded.
