Concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have declared support for the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, while warning party members against actions capable of undermining the party’s unity and electoral prospects.
The stakeholders, under the aegis of the Concerned Benue APC Stakeholders and Strategic Alliance, made their position known at a world press conference addressed by the Convener of the group, Dr Dominic Alancha.
Alancha said the APC was bigger than any individual, leader, aspirant or political group, stressing that personal disagreements should not be allowed to take precedence over the collective interest of the party. He also disclosed that he had previously opposed Governor Alia’s re-election bid but had changed his position after what he described as a reassessment of the larger interest of the party.
According to him, members with grievances against the governor or the party leadership should utilise the recognised organs and internal mechanisms of the APC rather than engage in activities that could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He warned that where credible evidence establishes violations of the party’s constitution and rules, the appropriate authorities should act in accordance with due process, irrespective of the status or influence of the individuals involved.
Alancha also expressed support for the Alia administration, arguing that its record in office provides, in the group’s view, a basis for the governor to seek another term. He similarly declared the group’s commitment to mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The stakeholders appealed to APC elders, leaders and members across the state to close ranks, saying internal differences should be addressed through dialogue and the appropriate party structures.
Alancha urged the party leadership to uphold the supremacy of the APC constitution and ensure that disciplinary measures, where necessary, are applied fairly and in accordance with established procedures.
He also called on Governor Alia to remain focused on governance and continue implementing his administration’s programmes, while urging party members to shift their attention towards mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group further appealed to members associated with different political camps to embrace reconciliation, insisting that the APC must remain united if it is to effectively present its message to voters across Benue State.
The stakeholders consequently declared their intention to mobilise across the state’s local government areas, wards and communities in support of the APC and the re-election bids of Governor Alia and President Tinubu in 2027.
Alancha said the group’s position was simple: the party must come first, Benue must come first, and all stakeholders should work towards strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
