Frontline contender for Benue South Senate under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Patrick Ojechema Idoko, on Friday, received a major boost in his aspiration, as notable Idoma youth group announced support for him.
This was, even as, former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, indicated interest in collaborating with Chief Idoko and others, when elected, to advance the course of renewable energy, which is currently at the front burners of global energy discourse.
Senator Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East in the 8th Assembly is seeking a reelection under the APC, the platform that is also producing Chief Idoko.
Speaking with Journalists in Abuja on Friday, shortly after meeting Senator Bruce at the venue for the ongoing APC aspirants screening, Chief Idoko, said both intending Lawmakers in the 11th National Assembly had a “very brief but fruitful deliberations on how to collaborate and network for the advancement of quality legislations that will better the lives of average Nigerians”.
“One of such discussions was networking with strategic alliance to champion the course of renewable energy in Nigeria.
“In agreement with my blueprint on power and energy, Senator Ben Bruce talked about proposing a Bill to gradually start replacing our diesel and petroleum cars with electrical cars in the National Assembly.
“To me, I would not only support the Bill, I would also propose that, since it is a new technology, it is high time we joined the global trend so that Nigeria will not be left out. it is easy to do this – 5 graduates per state could be sponsored abroad (China, America or Japan), to learn on the job for one year and Government could partner with foreign firms to start assemblage in Nigeria. By so doing, after sale services will be easy”, Idoko added.
When asked to expantiate on his agriculture blueprint on goat farming and ranching, the Otukpa born philanthropist said his statement during declaration was acutely misunderstood, saying, with time, and after his election, the people would understand better.
“No need to over flog the issue. My media team has already sent out a statement to that fact. We shall wait for the full implementation of all my blueprints, including agriculture, security, power and energy, economy, education, etc, after I’m inaugurated as Senator representing Benue South in June 2027”, he added.
Earlier, the Owofu K’Idoma Sociocultural Group (Youth Wing), said they were in Abuja in solidarity with Chief Idoko, whom they have endorsed for Benue South Senate, come 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Comrade Williams Agidani, Spokesperson, said Idoko’s blueprints and manifesto, aligned with the dreams and yearnings of Idoma nation, saying, members across the 9 Local Government Areas have been sufficiently briefed, to support a man whom they described as a Messiah of Benue South.
“He was not a Senator or even Councilor, when he used his resources to grade over 10 local roads across communities in Ogbadibo, bought cars for our youths, empowered widows and the vulnerables through the Mercy & Ojechema Foundation, giving scholarships to orphans, facilitating good paid jobs, etc, for the past one decade. How much more now that he is going to represent us as Senator? We nedd to rally round him and ensure we deliver him”, Agidani stressed.
