Governor Dauda Lawal is reportedly preparing to meet with President Tinubu tomorrow, fearing the loss of his re-election bid due to a mass defection of key PDP members. Just today, he lost another PDP state House of Assembly member, Hon. Faru, who represents Maradun II, to the APC. This follows a similar loss just one week ago, when another PDP candidate who Lawal had reportedly spent over 4 billion naira on during a by-election also defected to the APC, citing poor governance and a growing dissatisfaction among the masses with Lawal’s leadership.
Lawal now faces significant opposition within the state assembly, where the APC holds 13 out of 24 seats. An additional 7 members are said to be ready to defect to the APC, which would leave Lawal with only 4 members, potentially setting the stage for his impeachment.
Sources revealed that, in light of this political turmoil, Dauda Lawal met with several members of the state assembly yesterday. During the discussion, he expressed his fears of losing his seat, adding that even if he loses the election, he has international options to fall back on. He reportedly mentioned owning properties in London, Dubai, the US, and Germany, suggesting that he could relocate to any of these countries if he is ousted from office.
