President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi into the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as Zonal Secretary, Support Groups Coordinator for the North Central Zone, ahead of the President’s 2027 re-election bid.

The appointment is seen as recognition of Ogenyi’s political experience, grassroots mobilisation capacity and commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

A seasoned political mobiliser from Benue State, Ogenyi previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Civil Society and Support Groups, where he played a key role in coordinating support organisations.

In March 2026, he led the technical team of the Renewed Hope Network (TRN) alongside diplomat Prof. Tunji John Asaolu. The network was adopted by about 1,500 APC support groups to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s re-election and strengthen polling-unit structures nationwide.

With his new responsibility, Ogenyi is expected to work closely with the Director-General of the campaign structure, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and the North Central Campaign Coordinator, Governor Umar Bago of Niger State, to consolidate support groups and deepen grassroots mobilisation across the zone.

His associates described the appointment as a fitting recognition of his loyalty, hard work and experience, expressing confidence that he will bring his grassroots networks and knowledge of the region’s political dynamics to bear on the Renewed Hope agenda.

The appointment further underscores the strategic role of organised support groups in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
