Rivers State Governorship Aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Blessing Fubara, says his decision to contest is rooted in conviction to offer Rivers people better governance, not personal ambition.
Speaking during an interview session on TVC, Monday, June 1, 2026, Fubara addressed the delay in announcing results of the NDC governorship primaries in Rivers State. He said the party is taking time to address complaints from delegates at different levels to ensure fairness and equity.
“You will also agree that every strong democratic institution allows for airing of grievances and complaints,” Fubara stated on the programme. “The NDC, with its strong democratic tenets, is also taking its time because there has been an expression of concerns with the process. What is keeping it is the party’s capacity and internal mechanism to ensure every grievance is looked into.”
He disclosed that a decision on the primaries is expected by Tuesday, June 2, 2026, after which official results will be announced. Fubara urged aspirants and party members to trust the process and believe that the NDC will announce results that reflect “the wish and will of the people.”
On his motivation for the race, the aspirant said Rivers people have expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s performance.
“From all indications, the people are saying that the stance and position they take is that the ruling party has not done well for all the people,” he said. “As an individual, as a Rivers individual that has the right to be voted for and to vote, I am standing out with the conviction of my choice to see us restore good governance in Rivers State.”
Fubara added that while he and other politicians may share different political ideologies, his interest is in service, not personal gain.
The NDC National Secretariat and INEC have yet to release official results for the Rivers State governorship primaries. Party officials say collation and verification are ongoing to resolve all issues raised during the exercise.
