Rivers 2027: NDC Supporters Reject Dumo Lulu-Briggs’ Victory Claim

NV News

Supporters of Rivers State governorship aspirant, Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, have dismissed reports claiming that businessman Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has emerged winner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship primary election in the state.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the group described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public about the outcome of the party’s primary process.

The statement was in response to media publications and online reports alleging that “Billionaire Businessman Dumo Lulu-Briggs Defeats Gov Sim Fubara’s Brother to Win NDC Governorship Primaries in Rivers State.”

According to the supporters, no official result has been released by the NDC or the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that the governorship primary election has not been concluded.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress and INEC have not issued any official declaration of a winner. Any claim of victory by any aspirant, including Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, at this stage is premature, unofficial, and amounts to spreading falsehood,” the statement said.

The group further explained that delegates’ verification, collation of results, and final certification by the NDC National Secretariat and INEC were still ongoing, adding that Blessing Fubara remains a valid contestant in the race.

They emphasized that the aspirant is fully participating in the process in line with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

While expressing respect for Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and other aspirants, the supporters condemned what they described as attempts to manipulate public perception through unverified claims.

They argued that declaring winners before an official announcement by the party and electoral authorities undermines democratic principles and compromises the credibility of the primary election process.

The group called on the NDC National Working Committee, INEC, and relevant security agencies to investigate the source of the reports and take appropriate action against individuals spreading misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reaffirming their confidence in the process, the supporters said Blessing Fubara remains focused and committed to the ideals of the NDC, pledging to await the official outcome of the primary election through the appropriate party channels.

They urged the public and media organizations to disregard the reports until an official declaration is made by the party and electoral authorities.
