The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman,  has continued to make significant investments aimed at improving the living standards of his constituents through targeted empowerment programmes in electricity, education, skills development, and infrastructure.

The senator has identified access to reliable electricity as a foundation for economic growth and social stability, stressing that sustainable development cannot thrive without adequate power supply. To address long-standing power challenges in several communities, his office facilitated the provision and installation of new electricity transformers to reduce overload and improve distribution efficiency.

“Electricity is not a luxury; it is a basic necessity. When power supply is unstable, businesses suffer and communities cannot function effectively. That is why we made it a priority to intervene,” Senator Usman said.

In addition to transformer installations, the lawmaker has supported the deployment of solar-powered streetlights in various communities to improve safety and nighttime visibility. However, he explained that solar energy alone cannot meet the power demands of households and small-scale industries, hence the complementary investment in conventional electricity infrastructure.

The improved power supply has enhanced local economic activities, particularly skill acquisition programmes such as tailoring, welding, and other vocational trades that require stable electricity to operate effectively.

In the education sector, Senator Usman disclosed that more than 1,000 students from Kaduna Central are currently benefiting from his scholarship programme. The initiative supports students in tertiary institutions including Kaduna State University (KASU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Bayero University Kano (BUK), and other higher institutions across the country.

He emphasized that the scholarship scheme is structured as a continuous intervention, ensuring beneficiaries receive support throughout their academic duration until graduation. According to him, this approach is designed to promote academic focus and reduce the risk of students dropping out due to financial constraints.

The scholarship programme prioritizes courses in science and technology-related disciplines such as engineering, medicine, and agriculture, in line with the senator’s vision of strengthening human capital development. Beneficiaries are selected based on academic performance, with clearly defined grade point requirements.

On infrastructure development, the senator noted that several road projects have been completed across the senatorial district, while others are scheduled for execution under the current budget. He confirmed that the Kambala West Road, which has been of concern to residents, has been identified as a priority project following consultations with the host community.

“We believe development must be people-driven. That is why we engage directly with communities to determine their most pressing needs before implementing projects,” he stated.

Stakeholders across Kaduna Central have described the senator’s interventions as impactful, noting that the combined focus on power, education, skills acquisition, and infrastructure represents a comprehensive approach to grassroots development.

Senator Lawal Adamu Usman reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining these empowerment programmes, assuring constituents that future interventions would continue to focus on practical projects that deliver measurable benefits and long-term development outcomes for Kaduna Central.
