The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has stated that the National Assembly (NASS) has assured the agency of a favorable budget allocation for road safety initiatives in 2025.

Mohammed made this statement on Thursday while addressing journalists during the 2025 budget defense session with the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-governmental Affairs.

He emphasized the critical need for public education to ensure compliance with traffic regulations, reduce road accidents, and minimize fatalities. “Our ultimate goal is to achieve zero injuries and deaths on our roads,” he said.

The Corps Marshal highlighted the importance of increased funding to enhance the FRSC’s activities and deploy advanced technologies.

“We have received assurances that this year’s budget will be favorable, recognizing that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires everyone’s participation.

“It is imperative for drivers and road users to obey traffic regulations. We are losing far too many lives to road crashes, and it shouldn’t be the case. If we all adhere to traffic rules, many of these accidents can be avoided. We should also learn from countries that record fewer crashes and fatalities.”

Mohammed stressed the need to intensify public enlightenment and education. “We aim to bring everyone on board, ensuring that drivers and commuters are fully aware of their rights and responsibilities.

“They need to understand what actions are acceptable and what rules they must abide by. Enforcement through fines alone isn’t the solution; we must first sensitize the public. This is why we have requested additional funding from the Senate and House committees to strengthen our public education efforts and continue saving lives.”
