The De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive steps to address Nigeria’s worsening security, political, and economic challenges, expressing deep concern over recent developments across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the organization condemned the recent wave of violent killings in Jos, Plateau State, describing the incidents as “callous, senseless, and avoidable.” DNKI said the attacks, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens, represent a grave failure of the nation’s security system and a threat to national unity.
The group extended its condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the people of Plateau State in their time of grief.
While acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Jos to commiserate with affected communities, DNKI stressed that such gestures, though important, must be backed by concrete and sustained action.
“The time has come for decisive, strategic, and sustained measures to end the cycle of violence,” the statement read.
DNKI urged the Federal Government to ensure that those responsible for the killings are swiftly identified and brought to justice. It also called for a comprehensive review and overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture to effectively tackle the persistent insecurity across the country.
The organization further raised concerns over the high cost of political participation, particularly the exorbitant fees for nomination forms charged by major political parties. According to DNKI, these costs, along with stringent candidacy requirements, have made it increasingly difficult for ordinary Nigerians to participate in the democratic process.
“Democracy must not be reduced to an exclusive preserve of the wealthy. It should remain an inclusive platform driven by merit, vision, and a genuine desire to serve,” the statement noted, calling for urgent electoral reforms to promote affordability, transparency, and fairness.
On the economic front, DNKI decried the continued inefficiencies in Nigeria’s power sector, noting that unreliable electricity supply is crippling small and medium-scale enterprises and worsening unemployment and poverty levels.
The group observed that many businesses are forced to rely on expensive alternative power sources, leading to higher production costs and increased prices of goods and services.
It also highlighted the impact of the energy crisis on the healthcare sector, where hospitals and medical facilities face rising operational costs due to dependence on generators, thereby pushing quality healthcare beyond the reach of many Nigerians.
DNKI called on relevant authorities to prioritize reforms in the power sector, including improving generation capacity, ensuring efficient distribution, and adopting sustainable energy solutions to support economic growth.
Reaffirming its commitment to national unity and progress, the organization urged leaders at all levels of government to move beyond rhetoric and implement people-oriented policies that will restore public confidence and secure Nigeria’s future.
“Nigeria must work again for all,” the statement concluded.
