LORD MAYOR OF LEEDS, SENATE MINORITY LEADER, OTHERS HONOURED AT NIGERIAN GOLDEN HEART AWARDS IN UK

The city of Leeds came alive at the weekend as distinguished Nigerians from within the United Kingdom and across the globe gathered for the maiden international edition of the Nigerian Golden Heart Awards 2025, hosted by Wyte Image Media at the prestigious Hilton Leeds City Hotel over the weekend.

The event, which drew a large audience of dignitaries, professionals, and community leaders, celebrated the resilience and achievements of Nigerians excelling in diverse fields including business, leadership, humanitarian service, entertainment, philanthropy, and community development.

In addition to the award ceremony, Wyte Image Media a prominent African brand in event management also unveiled the Profile Magazine Africa. The publication aims to highlight inspiring African stories and perspectives, with its inaugural edition featuring compelling topics such as the reality of living in the diaspora, good leadership as the key to unlocking Africa’s potential, Africa’s top five most developed cities in 2025, the continent’s longest-serving presidents, and the untold story of Abigail Marshall Katung.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Festus Odunze, Chief Executive Officer of Wyte Image Media, said the awards were conceived to recognize and encourage Nigerians making remarkable contributions both at home and abroad.

“The Golden Heart Awards is our way of shining a spotlight on trailblazers whose efforts uplift communities and inspire others. By also documenting their exploits in Profile Magazine Africa, we hope to motivate more Nigerians to embrace excellence,” he noted.

Among the prominent honourees were Abigail Marshall Katung, the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds (2024/2025), and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Patrick Abba Moro. In her remarks, Mayor Katung emphasized that leadership is not confined to positions of authority but is a responsibility every individual must uphold.

“As we grow, we must rise to the challenge of making life better for others. True leadership is about service and impact,” she said.

Senator Abba Moro, alongside other awardees, extolled the resilience of the Nigerian people, particularly the youths, who continue to demonstrate excellence across the globe despite challenges.

Other notable recipients included Hon. George Alli, Rev. Godfrey Osemwegie (CAC Resident Pastor, Leeds), Ms. Stella Faith Erhabor (Italy), Mr. Innocent Igiehon, and Minister Esther Jonathan, among others.

The glamorous evening featured cultural showcases, networking opportunities, and tributes to Nigerians excelling across continents. Guests described the maiden diaspora edition as a resounding success, with many already looking forward to the 2026 edition of the Golden Heart Awards.

The Nigerian Golden Heart Awards, according to organizers, will continue to evolve as a platform that bridges the gap between Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, while celebrating the best of African excellence on the global stage.
