…Says APC will reclaim Gwagwalada in 2027
The Nigerian League of Youths for Advocacy (NLYA) has warmly commended the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Dr. Nyesom Wike, for the peaceful, transparent, and successful conduct of the 2026 FCT Area Councils Election, which saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) secure five out of the six Chairmanship positions across the councils.
In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Agada J. Anyebe (Al-Amin), the group described the outcome of the election as a clear reflection of purposeful leadership, effective grassroots mobilization, and the Minister’s unwavering commitment to democratic consolidation in the nation’s capital. According to NLYA, the victory of the APC in five councils is not a coincidence but the product of deliberate political engagement, strategic alliance-building, and sustained grassroots campaigning spearheaded by Barr. Wike.
Com. Agada noted that the Minister’s direct involvement in community outreach, stakeholder consultations, and ward-level mobilization played a decisive role in energizing party supporters and attracting undecided voters. He stated that Wike’s ability to connect with ordinary residents, traditional leaders, youth groups, market women, and professionals across the FCT gave the APC a human face and a message that resonated beyond party lines.
The group emphasized that NLYA itself mobilized its members en masse across the FCT to vote for the APC in the council polls, in line with its conviction that the Minister’s developmental strides deserve political backing. Com. Agada explained that the organization deployed youth volunteers across the six area councils to encourage peaceful participation and ensure that supporters came out early and voted responsibly. He added that the impressive showing of the APC is proof that when leadership performance meets effective mobilization, the people respond positively.
While celebrating the victories in five councils, NLYA expressed confidence that the Gwagwalada Area Council, which was won by the PDP in the just-concluded election, will be reclaimed by the APC in the 2027 Presidential Election. Com. Agada stated that elections are part of a long-term political process and that temporary setbacks often serve as lessons for greater victories ahead. He assured party supporters that with continued grassroots engagement and consolidation of achievements in the FCT, Gwagwalada will align with the broader political direction of the territory in the next major electoral cycle.
The group went further to describe Barr. Wike’s relationship with the APC as a model of efficient and mature political alliance. According to NLYA, his strategic cooperation with the ruling party at the federal level has demonstrated that governance and development can take precedence over narrow partisan interests. Com. Agada pointed out that this same strategic alignment played a significant role in the APC’s performance during the 2023 Presidential Election in Rivers State, where Wike’s political structure and influence contributed to reshaping the electoral landscape in favour of the party.
He noted that beyond electoral calculations, the alliance has yielded tangible developmental dividends. Rivers State, under this cooperative political climate, has attracted increased federal presence and attention, further reinforcing the idea that constructive engagement between state leaders and the federal government produces results. NLYA observed that Barr. Wike has now replicated this collaborative approach in the FCT, using his experience, political sagacity, and vast network to strengthen the APC’s footing in the capital.
Com. Agada described the Minister as a rare political figure whose courage and decisiveness have become his defining traits. He said that Wike’s life philosophy, anchored on bold action and visible results, has translated into rapid infrastructural transformation in the FCT. Roads that were previously neglected have been reconstructed and expanded. Critical junctions have been redesigned to ease traffic congestion. Rural communities that felt disconnected from the city center are now benefiting from improved access roads and basic amenities.
NLYA specifically applauded the ongoing expansion and rehabilitation of major road corridors in satellite towns, the completion of key intra-city link roads, and the accelerated development of public facilities aimed at improving the daily lives of residents. The group also commended the modernization of administrative structures within the FCT Administration, which has reportedly improved efficiency and service delivery. According to Com. Agada, these projects are not mere political showpieces but practical interventions that have restored public confidence in governance.
The organization further acknowledged the recognition Barr. Wike has received from professional bodies and civic groups for his infrastructural drive and administrative reforms. While noting that awards are secondary to service, NLYA stated that such honours reflect the broad acknowledgment of his impact and reinforce the belief that strong leadership produces measurable change.
Com. Agada described the Minister’s administrative acumen as exceptional, citing his ability to combine political strategy with practical governance. He remarked that managing the FCT requires balancing diverse interests, complex bureaucratic systems, and national expectations, yet Wike has shown firmness without losing focus. According to him, the peaceful conduct of the Area Councils Election is further evidence of a leader who understands both politics and governance.
The group stressed that the successful election has strengthened democratic culture in the FCT and sent a message that credible processes can thrive when there is political will. NLYA praised the Minister for ensuring that security agencies, electoral officials, and stakeholders played their roles responsibly, thereby guaranteeing a process that residents can trust.
Reaffirming its commitment, NLYA pledged continued support for Barr. Wike’s transformational efforts in the FCT. Com. Agada stated that the youth constituency remains a critical pillar of sustainable development and assured the Minister that young people under the umbrella of the organization will continue to back policies and projects that promote growth, inclusion, and opportunity.
He added that the group is prepared to partner with the FCT Administration in areas of civic education, voter mobilization, and community engagement to consolidate the gains already achieved. According to him, the future of the FCT depends on sustained collaboration between visionary leadership and active citizen participation.
In closing, Com. Agada congratulated Barr. Dr. Nyesom Wike on what he described as a well-earned political and administrative milestone. He urged residents of the FCT to continue supporting the Minister’s agenda for modernization and inclusive development, noting that the progress recorded so far is only the beginning of a broader transformation.
“The 2026 Area Councils Election has shown that when leadership is bold, strategic, and people-focused, the results speak for themselves,” Com. Agada stated. “We stand firmly with the Honourable Minister as he continues to reposition the FCT for greater excellence and as he works tirelessly to strengthen democratic governance for the benefit of all.”
