The convener, Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF) Paul James Adama has said, The forum played a pivotal role in preventing a serious religious crisis that could have resulted in irreparable harm to lives and property in Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In an statement made available for press release, Adama said “Last week, a young woman named Victoria David was intercepted by a group of Muslim youths near the Ayingba Central Mosque as they prepared for Friday prayers. Victoria was riding on a motorcycle (okada) when the road leading to the mosque was temporarily closed. The youths instructed her to cover her hair, to which she responded that she was a Christian and noted that many other okadas were also turning back. Angered by her statement, the youths slapped her, and others nearby joined in assaulting her”.

According to Adama, Upon getting information of the event, “the CCYF acted swiftly by engaging with relevant authorities, including the Ogohi Ayingba who’s the paramount ruler of Ayingba, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ayingba chapter, and Victoria herself. A security meeting was promptly convened, during which the youths involved were identified by the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque. An apology was subsequently tendered to Victoria and her family on behalf of the Muslim community”.

“The CCYF continues to handle numerous sensitive matters discreetly across the country to promote peace and harmony”.
