The Girls Brigade 23rd Calabar Company, District 2, marked a memorable milestone on Sunday with the formal enrollment of new patrons in a vibrant and spirit-filled ceremony held at the Presbyterian Church, Usang Iso Memorial Parish, Calabar.
Among the distinguished individuals honoured was Engr. Mrs. Anjor Obande, a renowned humanitarian and founder of the Jorjor Mother and Child Foundation. Her recognition underscored her tireless commitment to youth development, especially in the areas of maternal and child welfare.
The event was a significant step in the organization’s mission to strengthen its leadership and deepen community engagement. The inclusion of exemplary figures like Engr. Obande reflects the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young girls into responsible, confident, and God-fearing leaders.

In her acceptance speech, Engr. Obande expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed her commitment to the values of the Girls Brigade—discipline, faith, and service.
“My vision is to empower young girls to be independent, because independence builds confidence,” she said.
“An independent woman is a confident woman. Trust God in every aspect of your life. The Bible says, ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you.’”

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy State Commissioner of the Girls Brigade, Cross River State, Ms. Okuawan Inyang, encouraged the newly enrolled patrons to go beyond honorary titles and actively support the organization’s vision. She emphasized the importance of mentorship and community involvement.
“We are counting on you to be involved, to uplift others, and to lead by example,” she said.
“Support our young girls, celebrate their milestones, and walk this journey with us in building a generation of women who are bold, capable, and purpose-driven.”
