Distinguished Senator Allwell Onyesoh, DSSRS, JP, FIBAKM (Rivers East) and Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, welcomed the leadership of the University of Abuja on a courtesy visit yesterday. The delegation, led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi, included the university’s Registrar, Malam Yahaya, and a member of the Governing Council, Prof. Akeem Oyerinde.
The visit was aimed at validating the university’s staff nominal roll and demonstrating their commitment to upholding the Federal Character Principles, a constitutional requirement aimed at promoting equitable representation across the six geo-political zones.
During the meeting, Senator Onyesoh praised the University of Abuja for its proactive stance on ensuring compliance with federal character provisions. He emphasized the importance of adhering to these principles, which seek to foster national unity and ensure fairness in employment and appointments within government institutions.
“The Federal Character is not just a policy; it is enshrined in our constitution. It is critical that we all adhere to it in order to maintain fairness and inclusiveness in our institutions,” Senator Onyesoh stated, encouraging the university leadership to remain law-abiding and committed to national unity.
