…Says EFCC has become a political tool against citizens without political godfathers
Group under the agies of North-Central Youth Coalition, has call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to stop it’s selective and vindictive assault on the person’s of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The Coalition stated this during it’s peaceful solidarity rally in Abuja, on Thursday.
The National spokesperson of the coalition, Comrade Daniel Atayi, said the coalition have keenly observed the right of an innocent citizen of Kogi state being threatened.
“We, the coalition of North-Central Youths, strongly frown at the EFCC over its recent affront, assault, and attempt to victimize the person of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in their selective and vindictive fight against financial crimes.
“Our statement becomes necessary as we have keenly observed that the rights of an innocent Citizen and an indigeneof Kogi State in North Central Nigeria, is being threatened, violated and wantonly abused by the EFCC.
According to him, the Coalition watched with great dismay and absolute surprise, the conundrums employed by the EFCC against the young Man who has never been indicted of any crime by a Court of competent jurisdiction; who also have an exeperté order from the same Court of competent jurisdiction against the EFCC’s molestation and illegal assaults at his person or attempt to arresting or violating his fundamental human rights as a bonafide citizen and a Public Figure of this great country Nigeria.
Recall, that the EFCC illegally dispised the order of the Court and placed the name of Ex Gov. Yahaya Bello on its web portal of Wanted lists, and deliberately did same on almost all the media outlets in the country, thereby infringing on the rights of the ex Governor!
“We vehemently frown at these anomalies being exhibited by a body like EFCC which is supposed to uphold the rule of law and have respect for fundamental human rights while carrying its duties.
He noted that EFCC has no right within the laws and constitution of Nigeria to make an innocent Citizen a fugitive of the law.
“Worse of the recent attempts to nail the Innocent Yahaya Bello who appeared before the Commission at its Abuja Office yesterday to answer to the allegation against him, showing that a clear conscience fears no accusations, the EFCC emphatically told him to go and that they would get back to him, only for the commission to storm his Abuja Residence and the Kogi State FCT Liaison House, in a sporadic shooting spree at night against a Man who complied and appeared earlier in the day at the commission’s Office for questioning.
“We see these unethical conducts of the EFCC against the person of the ex Governor Yahaya Bello, as lawlessness, abuse of power, a witch-hunt, blackmails, character assassination and a malicious political scheme to nail him illegally and portray him as an unlawful citizen by all means possible.
The Coalition therefore appeals and call on
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to direct the EFCC to desist from violating the rights of one of us, Yahaya Bello, and to stop forthwith, the manners its conducting affairs against him.
“we also want the Northern Elders Forum to intervene against the lawlessness of the EFCC before it totally breaks down law and Order in the region by its vindictive, selective, and witch-hunting fights against one of us.
“We are law abiding citizens, but will not accept the body that’s saddled with due process for fighting financial crimes, to abuse its powers and constitution against anyone of us, as it will be vehemently resisted.
“We have observed that the EFCC has become a political tool against citizens without political godfathers, or strong political affiliations, and citizens perceived and assumed to be political enemies of the ruling administration, because, the commission turned blind Eyes at verifiable files of petitions and credible facts of financial crimes perpetrated by some big wings in the ruling administration, and rather turned against its perceived opponents, and or persons with no such backgrounds.
“We reiterate that ex Governor Yahaya Bello, is not a fugitive of the law, he has not committed such a crime as alleged by the EFCC; he must be allowed to move freely as a citizen and never be scrutinized by EFCC or anybody, as this may become a call for anarchy.
“We collectively say, this EFCC drama against Yahaya Bello must stop! Their negative obsession of him must not be allowed to linger!! We say no to the incessant harassment of the White Lion.
Responding on behalf of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, his Technical Adviser on Multilateral and Donor Funded Project, Dr Sanni Abdullahi Ozomata called on the youth to be calm and law abiding and allow the court to handle the case stressing that he is of the believe that rustice will be done.
He tasked the youth coalition to prevail on the federal government to bring some projects to the north central.
