Senator (Chief) Allwell Onyesoh, DSSRS, JP, representing Rivers East Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-governmental Affairs, held an interactive meeting today with the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). The engagement was centered on reviewing the commission’s staffing and recruitment processes. In attendance were the Executive Secretary of the NCCE, Prof. Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, and the Director of Human Resources, D.M. Yabani.
The NCCE leadership had been summoned by the Senate Committee to address issues concerning the review of the Commission’s commitment to the implementation of the federal character principle. This inquiry is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and accountability in recruitment processes, promotions, and staff management, in alignment with the Federal Character principles.
Prof. Okwelle and his team used the platform to clarify the commission’s recruitment practices, which have been in place for several years. The meeting provided an opportunity for open dialogue, aiming to resolve any misconceptions or concerns regarding the commission’s staffing system.
During the meeting, Senator Onyesoh expressed his satisfaction and excitement, noting that it was his first time engaging with an Executive Secretary from his own senatorial district. He emphasized the significance of Prof. Paulinus Okwelle’s role as a son of Rivers East, underscoring the importance of regional representation in leadership positions within government institutions.
The senator remarked, “I am deeply impressed by the leadership of Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, who has demonstrated exceptional intellectual ability and integrity in his work.
